What We Fund - boating

What We Fund

The Fund for Greater Hartford, a private, independent foundation, provides grants in education, the arts, community development, health and social services to benefit children, youth and families.

Grant funds are available to nonprofit organizations that apply best practices, creative and cost-effective approaches, with a history of delivering measurable outcomes. We offer funding for the following types of grants.

  • Arts Grants are limited to outreach or education programs for children or families. Where there is an opportunity, The Fund will partner with other funders to increase program impact and effectiveness. The Fund prefers to support projects at smaller community-based organizations.
  • Community Development Grants are made to support and strengthen projects in neighborhoods and communities in Greater Hartford.
  • Education Grants seek to insure educational opportunities for children at all levels.
  • Health and Social Services Grants are intended to enhance the health and welfare of a community, with an emphasis on services for children.
  • Secondary School Scholarship Aid is available for Hispanic students of limited financial means who live in Hartford and attend Watkinson, East Catholic and Northwest Catholic High Schools. Interested students are invited to call the schools or The Fund for more information.
  • Summer Program Grants (limited to $3,000 per grant) are available in the spring for summertime recreation and education programs. Application for these seasonal grants does not entail the usual formal procedure. A brief form is available for summer requests; applications must be submitted by March 1.
