2011 Grant Awards: Community Development

The Fund for Greater Hartford committed over $700,000 to the Greater Hartford community in 2011. The vast majority of grants were in our four major priority areas. We funded $105,939 in Community Development grants in Hartford, New Britain, and Middletown.


COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: To support efforts to strengthen communities and neighborhoods


The Connecticut Science Center

to support outreach efforts and programming for Hartford children, so they may enjoy and learn from this premier science center

the second in a three year commitment of $30,000 for the development of the Education and Community Center at the Butler-McCook Campus

the third and final payment to help underwrite the development of supportive housing in New Britain

Hartford Food System

to support the Grow Hartford program, an educational effort to help children and other community members understand better the source of their food, while growing nutritious crops that are then distributed in the community

Collaborative

support for and participation in this Local Initiative Support Corporation-sponsored consortium of funders and experts seeking to help community development corporations in Hartford rebuild neighborhoods

Resource Center

general operating support for this organization which provides information and education to all in the community, around housing issues, including foreclosure and tenants’ rights

Journey Home

Journey Home is Hartford’s implementation agent for their ten-year plan to end homelessness; our support went to help them form a Homeless Advisory Group to better inform their efforts

for expansion of the Knox Parks Community Gardens to a site in the North End of Hartford, next to Mount Mariah Baptist Church on Earle Street, where they have been invited for this purpose

Support Corporation

support for LISC’s investment and technical assistance provided for community development corporations, as well as public policy development in support of community development

on Housing and Homelessness

This is the Middlesex County effort to implement the plan to end homelessness in ten years; our support was for their efforts to do this

the second payment in a two year commitment of $14,000 to cover the cost of rehabilitating three beleaguered horses at the Hartford Carousel in Bushnell Park
